The threat of Christian Nationalism

Yesterday I watched the newly released footage of the rioters roaming throughout the US Capital. If it wasn’t painful enough to watch already, the “Jesus Saves” signs, wooden crosses, and “prayer” after ransacking the House floor made me sick. This is not patriotism, nor is it Christianity. It must be called out what it is: Christian Nationalism. It’s a threat to our democracy AND our churches because it twists history, Scripture, and truth for its own selfish purposes. I applaud those churches, like my own with the podcast linked below, who are stepping up to not only denounce Christian Nationalism, but take a moment to explain why and how it is wrong.  If you’re a believer, I encourage you to take a listen so you are better prepared to recognize the subtle, yet poisonous tendrils this idolatry can wrap us in. And if you are not a Jesus-follower, I encourage you to take a listen so you can see the church for who it really is, and not what a violent, misled mob would have you believe.
